For the #WIFchallenge of the first week, we decided to pick the theme Inspire Inclusion. Here are some ideas we came with during our brainstorming session✅ Give a voice to everyone during meetings to benefit from #collectiveintelligence💡The leader of the meeting can start by saying that they do not know how to solve this problem, that they do need everyone’s input, and by only speaking up lastMake sure that people are not interrupting each other and that all are listened to. Thank the whole team at the end for all contributions. ✅ Encourage a culture where everyone can be themselves at work 💡Start by being yourself at work to encourage everyone to do the same,be vulnerable and share about difficulties and failures ✅ Create a culture which celebrates mistakesBecause we learn so much by making themPersonally I did learn a lot out of a few mistakes I made. More than in all trainings and seminars of the past 10 years.- Always be prepared. I once underestimated the need for intense preparation of a session with senior executives. It was 18 years ago. It ended up well, after I apologized to the whole group. - Do not postpone calling or visiting a sick friend or colleague. It was even more years ago. I would visit her “next week”. Or the week after. Until it was too late.My colleagues Mathy Mande Muteba and Adèle Warin shared some “mistake learnings” as well. And you, what mistakes would you celebrate ? (Avoid mentioning names or too many details 😉)

Thought leadership is not simply broadcasting opinions and getting a bunch of likes.Thought leadership is immersion in a community of knowledge, where norms are challenged and boundaries pushed. It’s having the humility to recognise others’ expertise and welcome their perspective, but the boldness to forge your own path with this knowledge. It means harnessing knowledge to bring real-world benefits. This is what Big Minds Collective is about. So the news that our CEO, Michael, has been asked to join the Collective for a third year running is cause for excitement for ourselves and our clients. Find out more about what Michael’s inclusion means for NERVE and the brands who work with us: https://bit.ly/47nSOEe #B2BMarketing #BigMindsCollective #MarketingAgency #ThoughtLeadership

I want more for all of us. The completion of one year and the start of a new one can be so potent. As you keep flowing toward the end of 2023’s cycle, this is a meaningful time to reconnect and recommit to yourself. What are you moving towards into this next season? Last night, I was fortunate to attend "DEI on the Line" at The Gathering Spot, hosted by Ryan Wilson. The panel discussion with Nzinga “Zing” Shaw, Candace M. Stanciel, M. Ed., and Angelica Geter, DrPH, MPH left me feeling...🔗Enlightened🔗Understood🔗EnergizedSo much wisdom was shared, I'll need several posts to do it justice. But one point by Nzinga particularly resonated: as DEI practitioners, we are charged with the responsibility of explaining to leaders why it's in their best interest to empower historically excluded voices in the workplace. This includes giving historically excluded individuals decision-making power, access to leadership roles, and the opportunity to deliver innovation and creativity. The bottom line is DEI is good for business. New research constantly underscores the direct correlation between DEI and stronger revenue growth, innovation, and profitability. While the human impact alone should be enough, framing DEI in terms of business value is most impactful because it’s what the corporate world understands. I’m deeply grateful for spaces like The Gathering Spot for providing safe platforms for learning, venting, and strategizing without judgment.Well done, TGS. #diversityequityinclusion

Thrilled to join Angie Cartwright, M. Wilson Stoker, and so many w/ Kaplan Law Firm as a Passion for Partnership sponsor for the February #ATXPX program: Transforming Workplaces Through Trauma-Informed Leadership. Best takeaway? Two points really resonated with me and my work in advising current, soon-to-be-former, and former employees dealing with hostile work environments:1. It's not your job to help someone above you [work through their own trauma issues when they are creating a toxic workplace], and2. If someone in your organization has narcissistic tendencies, you need to remove that person [or remove yourself from their org, or remove yourself from the org itself].Bonus: always consider who has influence over the [problematic] person in the company.Tonight's fantastic speakers: JJ Ruescas ♾,Kyler Shumway, PsyD, andSeanna Crosbie, LCSW-S.Outstanding event!

Now that I'm back from several weeks of work-related travel, I'm reflecting on some excellent presentations at the Agricultural Retailers Association 2023 Conference and Expo. First up was Kim Lear with Inlay Insights. I've sat through many a "generations in the workplace" presentation, but this one was memorable for its consideration of GenZ. Leaders in organizations need to understand this incoming cohort as we will all be competing for them as additions to our teams. And for those interested in how GenZ engages as volunteers, she has excellent insights into the idea of sacrifice being at its core an act of hope for the future. How does your volunteer organization communicate a hopeful future - and how are you narrowing the say/do gap?
