  1. #1 Best Public High Schools in Miami-Dade CountySchool for Advanced Studies - HomesteadMiami-Dade County Public Schools, FL·11-12·Rating 4.53 out of 5 190 reviewsSenior: SAS has both been the best and hardest decision i’ve made in my life. Yes, this school is challenging, with AP and dual enrollment classes. But SAS also gives you an experience you can’t find at ANY other public school, take it from me. When you come out 2 years ahead and have a more well-built resume for work and potential colleges, the hard work is well worth it. That, and the social atmosphere is friendly and relaxing, not like other schools I’ve been to. Would definitely recommend for any future students, you won’t regret it!... I'm about to graduate now, and I just wanted to say it was an amazing experience. The best part for me was kind of split between how many friends I could get because of the environment and the great academics. To start, because there are not too many students per campus, the students are very close-knit, so I made many times more friends just in my junior and senior years than I had been able to the rest of my life. Also, there aren't too many teachers, but the teachers there are great, so the academics are great too! The bad thing is that the food could be better, although I think that's more with the whole system than my school. If I could see one change come into effect, it'd probably be more teachers in order to give the existing teachers a bit less work and also better food in general.... One of the main advantages is the academic rigor and college-level coursework that prepare students for higher education, providing a competitive edge in college admissions. 6. #5 Best Public High Schools in Miami-Dade CountyiPrep AcademyMiami-Dade County Public Schools, FL·PK, K-12·Rating 3.99 out of 5 126 reviewsSenior: I am a senior at iPreparatory Academy. I have been here for 12 years (since 1st grade), so I definitely know a lot about the school. This school is like a family to me. I've known the staff/students for most of my life, which I am thankful for. The small amounts of students make it much easier to work and have a peaceful environment, which I absolutely love. Sometimes it does get boring here because of the no new students after 9th grade, but you get used to it. It gives you more time to focus on your classes/college prep. Every class is honors if you don't take any APs or DE classes. Its honestly very beneficial for college credits and the classes are not hard at all. Many of the students who graduated (100%) have gone to very good colleges, like UF, FSU, RICE, Georgetown, Berkely, and many more. Overall, I believe that iPrep is a great school if you are looking for a very calm and small school with great academics. The elementary and middle school are all amazing as well.... The counselors were exceptionally supportive, providing guidance not just academically but also for mental health. I was part of the musical theater magnet, and I was pleasantly surprised by the dedication and hard work of the staff, especially considering our limited budget. The availability of girls' flag football was a plus, though the coaches were often rough and unfair. While the reading teachers were excellent and passionate, the math teachers lacked enthusiasm and seemed indifferent toward teaching. School events were always well-coordinated, and senior year offered many opportunities for growth, bonding, and creating lasting memories. 8. #7 Best Public High Schools in Miami-Dade CountyMAST@FIU - Biscayne Bay CampusMiami-Dade County Public Schools, FL·9-12·Rating 4.15 out of 5 110 reviewsParent: The best part about MAST is the emphasis on high-level work and the availability of dual enrollment classes at FIU, starting in 9th grade. It's a small school - the 2024 graduating class is 93 student. This provides the opportunity to get to know your teachers and really stand out! Students are required to take two science classes and one math class every year. The down sides: Course selection can be limited because it's such a small school. Almost all electives are taken online on Florida Virtual School, during school hours, including PE, foreign language, art requirements, etc, and the school limits what online classes the student can take, even in they're available on FLVS. The school administration has had some turnover this year, and there is no functional guidance counselor this year. Teacher quality varies, but they are almost uniformly concerned about the success and well-being of my children, and the school has been flexible with particular needs.... The staff helping you with all your questions and needs to help you get college ready. Not to mention educating you in the Greek culture and language. If the arts is simply a hobby to you, it may not or may not be the best choice depending on your interests and future endeavors. After being at this school for three years, I can attest to the fact that most of the faculty at this school really push for the students to be the best they can possibly be. The academics at this school are not the best; the math and science departments need massive improvement. Beware of the student service department; they’ll host mandatory meetings to ensure one is meeting the academic and arts requirements of this school in order to graduate, yet provide little to no assistance in the college application process, and will ultimately let you down if you make a mistake throughout the process and get on your case if you don’t test, rather than provide a solution to help you through the process. However, it does have its flaws where most of the counselors and faculties provide poor quality help and can sometimes be extremely rude. The teachers are amazing, which covers up that great flaw. They care about students' futures and are super kind to their students. They make sure to answer any questions that students have to the best of their knowledge and even provide after-school tutoring. The school provides great opportunities for college, including college-visits, summer programs, and great mentors. It prepares you for college classes through required research classes, which are a great help for students both excelling and struggling with writing. However, numerous classes are more student-driven because the students have to often engage in self-study or self-teaching because many teachers do not teach to the standard that the classes require. Many teachers also have a bad temperament, which affects students. For example, one teacher did not allow a student to go the restroom, even when the female student loudly declared to the class that it was a female emergency. 20. #20 Best Public High Schools in Miami-Dade CountyDon Soffer Aventura High SchoolMiami-Dade County Public Schools, FL·9-12·Rating 3.9 out of 5 21 reviewsSenior: This academic institution has pros and cons with regard to the student experience. These pros and cons are seen in tasks such as administration measures and opportunities offered within the school. On one hand, the school contains a considerable variety of classes in its curriculum whether it varies from honors to AICE (Advanced International Certificate of Education) to AP (Advanced Placement) class in addition to relative low measurement on significant violence within school parameters. These positive opportunities allow a student to seek for a more enjoyable and personal experience in their high school life. On the other hand, there is also a negative outcome of a changing staff throughout the years. The lack of consistency in teachers on certain subjects complicates the understanding of topics and enhancement of academic work given to students, counteracting their open choices. There can be some cyberbullying, but once you find out and inform the administration, that problem disappears immediately. The administration overall is excellent at handling problems. The art magnet, which is the magnet I'm in, is great!
