Jersey residents are now being called to action to report suspected side effects of medications, playing a crucial role in global drug safety. Health and Care Jersey has teamed up with the World Health Organization and over 130 other partners for #MedSafetyWeek, a decade-long campaign that empowers individuals to make a difference. But here’s where it gets eye-opening: despite its importance, only 5-10% of side effects are ever reported. Why? Many people either don’t realize they can report, underestimate its significance, or simply forget. This is the part most people miss—by using the Yellow Card reporting system (accessible at https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/), islanders can help regulatory bodies like the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) identify and address potential risks, making medications safer for everyone worldwide.
