Robert Pattinson's experience on the set of Dune: Part Three sounds… intense! The actor recently opened up about his time filming the highly anticipated sequel, and it's clear the desert conditions left a lasting impression. Let's dive into what he shared and what it might mean for the film.
News broke recently that Robert Pattinson is joining the cast of Dune: Part Three. While the news was circulating, the actor remained silent. However, during a conversation with Jennifer Lawrence for IndieWire, Pattinson finally broke his silence.
"When I was doing 'Dune' it was so hot in the desert that I just couldn’t question anything," Pattinson revealed. He humorously added, "And it was so relaxing, like my brain actually wasn’t operating, I did not have a single functioning brain cell. And I was just listening to Denis [Villeneuve]: ‘Whatever you want!’” This gives us a glimpse into the challenges of filming in such extreme environments. It also hints at the level of trust and collaboration between Pattinson and director Denis Villeneuve.
While Pattinson's role hasn't been officially confirmed, speculation points to him playing Scytale, a pivotal character in the narrative. But here's where it gets controversial... Scytale is a key figure in the conspiracy to overthrow Paul Atreides.
The upcoming film boasts a star-studded cast, with Timothée Chalamet reprising his role as Paul Atreides. Zendaya returns as Chani, alongside Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke are set to play Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul and Chani.
Denis Villeneuve is back in the director's chair for Dune: Part Three. However, he sees the project not as a traditional trilogy, but as a continuation. "First, it’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych," Villeneuve explained. "It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.” He further elaborated that the story "takes place like 12 years after where we left the characters at the end of Part Two." He also confirmed that it “will finish the Paul Atreides arc.” And this is the part most people miss... Villeneuve isn't just making a sequel; he's crafting a unique cinematic experience that explores a different chapter in the Dune saga.
In other news, Pattinson will soon be seen alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Die My Love, a new film from Lynne Ramsay. The film follows a young couple who move to rural Montana. However, they struggle to adjust to their new surroundings and parenthood, which drives their marriage into unsettling and unpredictable territory. Die My Love will be released on November 7.
