10-3-1 RULEThis is a Sales formula suggesting that out of 10 prospects you can get 3 appointments and out those 3 appointments you can make 1 sale. The rule is not as neat and there qualifications to it. This rule applies to anyone who sells something including those selling their labour for a wage. I am sensing some discouragement amongst friends and colleagues who go out to the market applying for jobs and nothing comes of those efforts and I want to remind us all of the Sales 10-3-1 Rule. Applying this rule you have to count 10 qualified prospects (Job interviews that you have bee invited to) NOT the number of CV you have sent. From the 10 interviews, 3 may shortlist you. And how do you know you have been shortlisted, you may ask? You are invited for a second interview, Medical tests or any meaningful engagement with the prospective employer and out of that 1 offer can be made. With that said, remember the rule is not as neat as suggested further there are many dynamics outside your control that are at play and you just have to continue to put yourself out there until something comes up.

Take this Lesson From a Sales ProfessionalFollow-up is critical. In sales, it takes 7-10 “touches” with an account to close the deal. Create a system for keeping track of all your job search activities and develop a process for following up. That means following up on every resume you send, every networking contact you make, every interview. Know what you need to do and when and put it on your calendar so you don’t forget.#jobsearch

I'm interviewing candidates soon for an sales position soon. Below are the answers to the test...To put your best foot forward these are the "table stakes".1. Please know SOMETHING about the job for which you applied. Before you ever speak to a hiring manager, you probably spoke to a recruiter. Ask them questions! Use this cool thing called LinkedIn to find other people who have that job and ask them. 2. Please know something about the company. Hey, this is 2023; every company on the planet has a website. Spend some time on it. It will tell you what the company actually does and the company's top priorities (hint: it's usually the stuff you see splashed on the screen when you first log on).3. Know something about me. After all you did apply for a sales job. This is the biggest sales call you will make. If you are not going to take some time to know who you are selling yourself to, how can I expect you to know your customer before you try to sell our products and services to them? I am not hard to find. I'm right here on LinkedIn along with most of the rest of the professional world. Then, how about asking me some questions about myself during the interview? You know that "small talk" part when you shake hands and talk about the weather or the traffic? Yep, that was part of the interview. I am just waiting for you to ask me about...me! Guess what everyone's favorite topic of discussion is? Themselves! 4. Yes, "brag books" matter. I want to see that you can back up all the wonderful things you are saying about yourself. If you are not going to take the time to put together a professional presentation about the product you know best (you!), then what can I expect when you get in front of your top target or biggest customer?5. Let's talk about that resume....I don't need a job description. Tell me what you accomplished. 6. ASK QUESTIONS! Something besides "can you tell me about the job? or what's the next step?" I certainly don't want to hear that the recruiter answered all your questions. Let me ask you this, what is more persuasive, a statement or a question? (See what I did there?) Hey, I work here. Don't you want to know what I think about the company? The territory? The industry? I'm going to be your sales leader; don't you want to know how I lead? If you are not going to ask me a question on your interview, how can I expect you to do anything but show up and throw up on a sales call?.....and finally ASK FOR THE JOB! This is your chance to show me you can sell. If you won't ask me for the job (or at least try to close me for another meeting), why should I believe that you will ask a customer for their business?Good luck everyone!

Applying for a new Sales role in 2024? 📞Ensure your CV is hitting the mark. 🎯There is a wealth of advice and information on what the "perfect CV" looks like across LinkedIn. Having recruited for Sales professionals for 5+ years, your CV is the key to getting an interview. The interview is your opportunity to elaborate on your CV. Here are some key insights I look out for when reviewing profiles: 🎯 Achievements - Your opportunity to demonstrate some key wins. What projects did you win? How did you perform against budget? What new clients did you bring on board? 🎯Stats Stats Stats - Less words, more data. Give your achievements some true context. E.g. Achieved 138% of annual budget, with 65% of sales coming from new clients onboarded in the past 12 months. 🎯Access - Relationships in sales are king, especially in WA. Demonstrate your network. Who did you sell in to when achieving target? Did you sell on site? was procurement involved? did you engage with end users? Who signed off on the deal? 🎯 Snapshot - Be concise, back it up with data and leave them wanting more. This will create the opportunity to elaborate in interviews and differentiate yourself from your competition. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------Open to new Sales roles and unsure if your CV is hitting the mark? Shoot me a DM or email Ben.stagg@nesfircroft.com and I will review and refresh your CV.
