Sean “Diddy” Combs Trial: Cassie Ventura Attack Video to Be Admitted in Court
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial will feature some graphic evidence.
During an April 25 court hearing ahead of the rapper’s sex trafficking trial—which is set to begin jury selection May 5—Judge Arun Subramanian has decided, per NBC News, to allow a graphic video of Combs attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at Los Angeles’ Intercontinental Hotel in March 2016.
Last May, CNN published a clip of the hotel surveillance footage, which seemed to match up with the alleged incident Ventura later detailed in her lawsuit against Combs in November 2023. (Both parties announced a settlement the next day after the rapper denied her claims.)
"I was f--ked up. I hit rock bottom," Combs said in a video posted to Instagram at the time of the footage’s release. "But I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video."
Adding that he had gone to therapy and rehab since, the 55-year-old insisted that he was "committed to be a better man each and every day."
Four months after the video was published, during a hearing on Combs’ second request for bail, Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson stated, per NBC News, that Combs allegedly sent a text in the days following the alleged assault.
"Call me, the cops are here,” Johnson said the texts read. "I have six kids. Call, I’m surrounded."
And while Johnson did not explicitly say the victim’s name in court, she said the woman replied, "Sick you think it’s OK to do what you've done."
In addition to the Ventura’s attack video, US Attorney Madison Smyser also told the court during the April 25 hearing, according to NBC News, that videos of Combs’ “freak offs,” in which he allegedly coerced female victims into participating in sexual performances, will only be shown to the jury and the parties. Smyser emphasized that none of the video or audio will be made public.

After footage of the assault was released, Cassie shared a public message of gratitude.
"Thank you for all of the love and support from my family, friends, strangers and those I have yet to meet," Cassie—who was in an on-off relationship with the rapper for over a decade starting in 2007—wrote in a May 23 Instagram post. "The outpouring of love has created a place for my younger self to settle and feel safe now, but this is only the beginning."
"Domestic Violence is THE issue," the singer continued. "It broke me down to someone I never thought I would become. With a lot of hard work, I am better today, but I will always be recovering from my past."
Cassie—who is expecting her third baby with husband Alex Fine—concluded her message with an update. “This healing journey is never ending,” she shared, “but this support means everything to me. Thank you.”
