While the address, www. greenfieldin.org, remains unchanged, accessibility, navigability, aesthetic quality and reliability of the city's online guide to city government and city services have been overhauled. "Whether you're looking for information about city government, municipal utilities, or local history, we hope you find this Web site to be helpful and informative," the site's masthead reads. "Greenfield represents the best of both worlds blending its small-town atmosphere with managed growth as part of the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area." The city's information technology director, Nick Riedman, has been working for months with Web site design firm Egov. The Indianapolis company was also responsible for Greenfield's old site. But technology has come a long way since the site was first conceived. The city is still working on a component that will allow municipal utility customers to pay bills online.

While that feature still has a few kinks to work out, it will have a big impact on the city utility billings office. It also will allow customers to track a year's worth of utility use. The new site is also far more interactive for users than the old, outdated site. The city homepage includes the link "Action Center." "The Action Center allows citizens to maintain an open dialogue with their community government," an explanation on the page states. "Your submission will be reviewed by the appropriate staff member and handled accordingly in order to provide the best service." Visitors can report abandoned vehicles or sewer problems, request public information, report power outages, and complain and give praise.
