Uganda's Southern Africa Tourism Roadshow: Boosting Regional Partnerships & Travel (2025)

Uganda’s High Commission in Pretoria has kicked off the Roadshow in Johannesburg, inaugurating a week packed with engagements designed to boost tourism cooperation, trade partnerships, and cross-border market linkages across Southern Africa.

The program unites national tourism authorities, leading travel trade professionals, media, and private sector stakeholders for a sequence of business-to-business workshops, product showcases, cultural exchanges, and targeted networking across six cities.

From Johannesburg to Durban, Cape Town, Gaborone, Windhoek, and Harare, the delegation will showcase Uganda’s appeal and seek to expand regional tourism collaboration.

Speaking at the launch, Uganda’s Ambassador to South Africa, Amb. Paul Amoru, underscored Southern Africa as a fast-growing, complementary market with strong traveler interest, substantial spending, and demand for premium wildlife, adventure, and multi-destination experiences.

“The Roadshow provides a timely and practical platform to increase visitor flows, deepen commercial and cultural ties, and facilitate structured engagements between Uganda’s Destination Management Companies and the Southern Africa travel trade,” he said.

Amb. Amoru highlighted that the Roadshow will include workshops, media engagements, and experiential showcases aimed at boosting Uganda’s market visibility, expanding destination knowledge, and supporting product development that aligns with regional traveler expectations.

He stressed that presenting Uganda across six cities signals a long-term commitment to coordinated tourism marketing, enhanced connectivity, and mutually beneficial regional collaboration.

The broader economic and diplomatic significance of the initiative was also emphasized. Tourism is highlighted as a driver of employment, foreign exchange earnings, and community livelihoods, with strategic partnerships capable of delivering sustainable regional impact.

Representing South African Tourism, Bontle Madiba praised the Uganda High Commission for organizing a structured, trade-focused regional engagement.

“There is a growing importance of intra-African travel, and South African Tourism will support initiatives that promote collaboration rather than competition among African destinations,” she stated.

She urged operators and tourism boards to develop multi-country itineraries, cross-regional packages, and joint marketing campaigns that showcase Africa’s diversity and collective strength. She added that Uganda’s Roadshow exemplifies the continental partnerships needed to elevate Africa’s global tourism presence.

The event was coordinated by Afrireps Consult, the agency contracted by the Uganda High Commission to manage logistics and trade mobilization for the Roadshow.

Afrireps reaffirmed its commitment to improving market access, building trade linkages, and increasing Uganda’s visibility in Southern Africa. The agency stressed the importance of regional collaboration, multi-destination circuits, and co-created itineraries as key drivers of Africa’s tourism competitiveness.

Johannesburg marks the opening of a week of activities designed to drive tourism growth, broaden market presence, and deepen Uganda–Southern Africa region cooperation. The Roadshow is executed under the Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Program of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Uganda High Commission extended gratitude to all trade partners, tourism boards, private sector operators, and media representatives supporting the Southern Africa Tourism Roadshow, inviting continued engagement and collaboration throughout the itinerary.
