What's 'trending' in the supplement world? Yeah, that question is cringeworthy when I've seen some of the things over the years.Whether it was my days managing Complete Nutrition or GNC when I'd have an odd influx of customers seeking a single-ingredient product as a result of Dr. Oz's latest nonsense, or in modern times whatever has taken off on social media, these things come in waves. It's not all bad, though - With the GLP-1 oriented products being ultra hot, with even GNC and The Vitamin Shoppe taking notice and creating specialty sections for those seeking products to complement Ozempic or to act as a natural GLP-1 alternative, this brought to light a favorite ingredient of mine - berberine.Touted specifically that it's great to pair with Ceylon cinnamon for a synergistic effect, berberine has been a long-time powerhouse, but it does carry its own issues in traditional berberine HCL form, especially at the 1.5g dose. That's a reason I'm a big advocate of dihydroberberine such as NNB Nutrition GlucoVantage. It addresses the pain points of traditional berberine and is a sweet 1-2 combo with ceylon for blood sugar management among other things.Today, a quick overview:

I wonder if there's been an uptick in meal replacement shakes too, like there was with the "bariatric boom"?I used to love those 260cal shakes from Met-Rx back in the day, working through lunches.

Drew Peters, MA, CSCS great to see you advocating dihydroberberine, with its improved bioavailability and reduced gastrointestinal distress compared to berberine. Kudos to NNB nutrition for this innovative formulation!

AMPK - not exactly an everyday term for most people, but perhaps you’ve heard of it on occasion, or at the very least, remember hearing the word while you glazed over what was being taught in your A&P I course in those college days. While you may not know what it is (many don’t), it’s a powerful part of our physiology and, when harnessed to our advantage, can help you reach your goals both aesthetically and performance-wise even faster.Things get really interesting when we look at ingredients that work through the AMPK pathway, such as CellMark’s Actiponin - an ingredient I’ve featured in several of my formulations over the years, as it can act as a standalone catalyst or serve as the backbone for a multi-pathway approach.Let’s take a closer look at just what AMPK is, how it works, and why you should take it into consideration.

Serious question: When is the last time you actually bought music? 🎶 I listen to an obscene amount of music and may or may not have subscriptions to Spotify, Pandora and Apple Music 🙃 I can stream literally any song I want, any time and not have to buy individual tracks/albums to do so. However in the Apple Music store, you can still buy things. In this day and age, I can't tell you the last time I actually paid for a song/album - it's subscription all the way for unlimited music. I remember the horrors of Limewire and such for downloading music and having to burn them to a CD. I always was 'the plug' for always making the mix CD for our high school weight room, though 😆

What is the product that REALLY got you into supplements? 👀 🤔 For me it was 2006 and the glory days of the OG pre-workout that essentially created the category: N.O. Xplode. I remember that appearing in my best friend’s locker during summer workouts right before football 2 a days started and never looked back. Was it a great product? No, but at 16 years old, having taken nothing like it, it literally helped ignite my love of lifting to a new level as well as changed the sports nutrition category forever, arguably being one of the most impactful products to ever be released in defining a category that is still dominant 18 years later. N.O. Xplode is kind of like that ex you never talk about - You’re embarrassed that it happened, but you live and learn and move onto your next mistake...for me that may or may not have been the OG SuperPump250 😂

It's nothing new to see people saying “milk isn’t meant for human consumption”. Isn't it wild though that they'll proceed to consume nut water with industrial oils, synthetic vitamins, fillers, and artificial flavors and call it 'milk'? Just a thought. I haven't been a dairy milk drinker in years so I really don't have a horse in the race, here. I'm just curious - who here still drinks milk? Or, if you're like me - when did you stop?

What's one of my favorite ingredients that is a daily staple and can aid in the following: - Incredible at reducing inflammation (joint, circulatory, digestive, etc.) - Supports endothelial function and may reduce the risk of heart disease - Possesses potential anti-cancer properties - Aids in memory; Potentially anti-Alzheimer's properties - High-potency antioxidant Well, this one probably isn't a shock as it's ultra-popular, but many don't know exactly why it's so commonly recommended: Curcumin. If you don't already have this in your daily arsenal, this is one to definitely look into. A few key points when looking for a good one to add: - Pay attention to the % curcuminoid content. You may see a product with 1,500mg+ of turmeric/curcumin on the label, but that won't give you the desired effect. A product that lists the curcuminoid content (I aim for 95%) is ideal so you can ensure you're getting the actives you need for the desired effects. - Black pepper extract is your friend. Curcumin has poor bioavailability and needs piperine (the active component in black pepper extract) to help it out. There are some new technologies such as liposomal, etc. so the black pepper extract is focusing on the most commonly seen products. - How much? I generally like it at 400-500mg daily of a material with a 95%+ curcuminoid content, though you'll see it taken at higher dosages. Who uses curcumin or has been thinking about adding it in?

The formulator part of me gets excited about the things IN a product. ✅The dietetics part of me gets excited about the things NOT IN a product. ❌In an ongoing effort to call out the food industry and hopefully instill change and hopefully get some of the nonsense taken out of our food, It’s refreshing to highlight brands doing things the right way on my platform.good culture is one such brand. If you’re a cottage cheese fan, it doesn’t get much more stellar than this. Delicious, straight forward and clean label. I’m a fan 👏🏼 Great work here.I’ve been utilizing more cottage cheese and greek yogurt lately and since I’m a more frequent consumer than I have been in a long while, I’m noticing more brands like this since I’m actively looking for it.Still not going back to being milk drinker, though. Those days have been long gone by about 15 years.
